Every impressive bridge, every sprawling commercial complex, and every vital roadway begins not with a shovel, but with a number. Before a single piece of equipment arrives on site, a crucial process takes place: estimating. This is where plans become prices, and where the financial foundation of an entire project is built. It is the true starting point of all construction.
For a new graduate or someone just starting their career, there is no better place to learn the industry than from the inside out. Our client in Maitland has an exciting opportunity for an Estimating Intern to do just that—to step away from the textbook and into the engine room of the construction business.
As an Estimating Intern, you won’t be on the sidelines; you’ll be an integral part of the team that makes projects happen. You’ll gain hands-on experience in the skills that drive the industry, including:
• Plan & Specification Analysis: Learn how to read and interpret complex project blueprints and documents, translating an architect’s vision into a tangible list of materials and labor.
• Takeoff & Pricing: Dive into the details of performing accurate takeoffs—calculating the exact quantities of concrete, steel, and other materials needed for projects ranging from $50K to $10 million.
• Subcontractor & Vendor Collaboration: Discover the art of communication and negotiation as you work with subcontractors and vendors to define scopes of work and analyze bids.
This isn’t just about crunching numbers. It’s about developing the strong analytical ability to interpret data and make recommendations that can determine a project’s success.
This role is designed for a self-starter who is eager to learn and grow. While a degree or experience in a related field is a great foundation, we are looking for someone with the key attributes that signal future success:
• Adaptability: The construction world is dynamic. You must be able to adapt to different personalities, management styles, and team compositions.
• Strong Interpersonal Skills: You’ll be communicating with a wide range of people, from senior estimators to vendors. Excellent verbal and written communication is essential.
• Tech-Savviness: Modern estimating relies on strong technology skills. Your comfort with computer systems and new software will be a major asset.
This internship is the perfect opportunity to see if a long-term career in project management, purchasing, or cost control is the right fit for you.
If you are a recent graduate or an ambitious individual ready to start your career, this is your chance to gain invaluable, real-world experience. Stop just learning about the construction industry and start helping to build it.
This is your opportunity to turn your potential into a profession.
